The FX-Net Pilot Project

FX-Net Project Participants (PDF format) - December, 2004
FX-Net "Wish List" (PDF format) - March, 2005
FX-Net "Tips and Tricks" (PDF format) - December, 2004
FX-Net "Procedure" Files - January 2005

To use the following FX-Net procedure files, copy the files into your C:\FX-Net East\data\procedures folder. Then start FX-Net. On FX-Net's main menu bar, click on: "Files," "Procedures," and "Open." In the “Open
Procedure" dialog box, click on the procedure you want to use then click "OK." Another procedure dialog box will open. In the lower left-hand corner of the box, click on "Load." The procedure will then load into
FX-Net's main window.

1.

AVN ConUS Sfc WndPrc.32r This procedure shows Aviation model wind speed in color-shaded contours, with wind streamlines, wind flags, and precipitation for the Continental U.S. This procedure is useful for locating persistent areas of light winds and no precipitation that are likely to accumulate air pollution and for determining the direction of transport. The procedure uses the "wind speed AVN" color map.
2. MesoETA ConUS Sfc WndPrcPM2.32r This procedure shows Meso Eta model wind flags and the 3-hour precipitation forecast along with current PM2.5 hourly averages for forecast times that have current data. This procedure is useful for evaluating PM2.5 accumulation and transport.
3. Wx Obs CenUS 2hr.32r This procedure plots all weather observations for the last two hours using the Central U.S. domain. It is useful for checking current weather conditions.

Using FX-Net’s Color Map Editor - February 2005

Color map files are files that adjust the colors of images displayed in FX-Net. To use a color map file, save the color map file (*.dat or *.cmap file) to C:\FX-Net East\data\cmap\custom. Once they are saved, load an
image into FX-Net.

Loading an image is accomplished by clicking on: “Volume” in FX-Net’s main menu and then clicking on “Browser” in the drop down menu. In the Volume Browser dialog box, click on “Source,” “Fields,” and “Planes” to select the image you want. For example, for AVN surface temperatures, click on “Source” then select “AVN”; click on “Fields” then select “Temperature”; finally, click on “Planes” and select “Surface.” After highlighting your composite selection in the large rectangle in the dialog box, right click on it and select the image option. At this point, click “Load.” Your selected image will be loaded into the main FX-Net window.

With an image loaded, apply a color map. Click the "Image Properties" button on FX-Net’s main toolbar. This brings up the color map editor. Click the "Load" button to launch a window that will allow you to search for the color map file you would like to use. Highlight the file you would like to use and then click "Open." Click "Apply" in the dialog box to apply the features of color map file.
